I have received some messages with doubts about some features of the iPad 2. And this is natural, since we are talking about a device and a totally new operating system.
I got a comment from Thiago that asked about some myths that circulate on the web in relation to the iPad:
Soon after the euphoria of the launch of the iPad 2, many consumers began to question some points that went blank in the presentation of the new product of Apple, made by Steve Jobs.
Interestingly, iPads 1 and 2 have numerous functions that are blocked by the manufacturer.Maybe that’s why there is a big argument between what the iPad 2 is or is not capable of doing.
The iPad 2 has no SD card slot and USB ports
>>> Truth – Apple sells a kit consisting of an SD card reader and a camera con- nector (see photo below). That is, it only serves the iPad’s connection with digital cameras, and is sold separately.
So, it’s no use just trying to fit your pendrive to a connector and imagine that in this way you will be able to transfer all your files. For this you will have to connect your iPad to your PC/Laptop/Notebook, through a cable that already comes with the iPad.Here’s how to do the file transfer in this article.
>>> Myth – There will always be someone to try to unlock what the manufacturers “hang”.And through the camera connection kit and a jailbreak, it is even possible to connect a USB stick and an SD card to transfer data. But this practice can also detonate your iPad’s setup …
And if you’re going to use a jailbreak, do it at your own risk. I’m just saying it’s possible, not that you should use it.As Eduardo Moreira of the TechTudo website says:”If you do not know how to do it, do not!”.
IPad 2 does not support 4G connection
>>> Truth – Almost all of the direct competitors of the iPad 2 (read Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy) have built-in support for 4G technology, which theoretically doubles the speed of 3G connection.(Taking advantage of the title of this article, several experts have already said that 4G is much more myth than truth).
Apple claims that iPad prices would have to be readjusted and that, according to a survey by the company, 50% of potential consumers want to purchase a Wi-Fi model.
It’s even better for Brazilian users, at least as long as carriers insist on charging such high prices on 3G connections.
The ipad 2 does not have Bluetooth
>>> Truth – It is important to note that the bluetooth of the iPad basically works with keyboards, headphones and microphones with the specifications of Apple.
>>> Myth – Some devices – such as smartphones and GPS – can even be connected using a jailbreak, that is, through an unlocker program. The same can be done with file transfer. But it’s up to you, as I explained at the beginning of this article.
All iPads 2 have microchip input and can make connections
>>> Myth – All iPads have a microchip input and this creates some confusion for users ( I made a mistake myself and was alerted by Victor, our reader ).
Only iPads 2 with 3G have this function enabled (obvious, right!), And so can be used to make connections.
Many say it is ridiculous to use a “giant” device like the iPad to make calls, but they forget that it is possible to use a wireless headset.
For users of iPads 2 only with wi-fi: you can make calls over VoIP, with applications like Skype.
The iPad 2 has a lower screen than competitors
>>> Myth – Comparing the resolution in pixels of the iPad (1024px x 768px) with the Xoom (1280px x 800px) you can see a significant difference in numbers. But this does not represent a significant improvement in the quality of the images.Otherwise, higher resolution causes immediate impact on battery life.
The iPad 2 will never run Flash
>>> Truth – As much as trying to “detonate” Apple for not supporting the Adobe Flash, Steve Jobs had his reasons there. And one of the main is the reduction of battery life, key item in a tablet.
According to timelesstablets.com, this is Apple’s version, because almost everyone knows that – behind it – there is also a commercial fight with Adobe.Learn why the iPad will never run Flash in this article.
The iPad 2 is much slower than other competing tablets
>>> Myth – Like its direct competitors, the iPad 2 has a dual-core processor, better known as dual core.Although it has a smaller memory (512MB) this does not mean that it is half the speed, since other items of the architecture of a device must also be taken into account.
The iPad 2 operating system is more secure
>>> Truth – Just like the iOS of Macs, which has always been safer than the Windows of PCs [*], the operating system of the iPad 2 is also. This in comparison with Google’s Android, the system chosen by Apple’s tablet competitors.
Not that Android has serious “holes” of security, but simply because Google needs to create many applications, which can be an open door to so-called “malicious” codes , embedded in a third-party application. This most likely will not happen, but the risk is greater.
Apple is more careful about approving applications made by independent developers. (I speak of security, not censorship, as has already happened).
[*] Windows has always been more targeted by the number of copies sold, far superior to iOS.
